This design is a simple I2C interface for a standard HD44780 compatible LCD. (That covers about 95% I guess!) If you want to use it with an Arduino you can use this lib: http://hmario.home.xs4all.nl/arduino/LiquidCrystal_I2C/LiquidCrystal_I2C.zip .
